Cabinet to discuss climate change and economy reset proposals

Steps being taken to ensure the county council is carbon neutral by 2030 and proposals to reset the county’s economy following the impact of Covid-19 will be on the agenda for next week’s virtual cabinet meeting, to be held on Tuesday, July 21, at 10.30am.

The meeting can be followed online at:

Leader of the county council, Cllr Paul Marshall, said: “Despite the difficult times we are currently experiencing there are still a great deal of important issues which need to be discussed and agreed.

“How our economy and our county more generally comes back from this massive global crisis will be key and it is vitally important we examine this issues at our cabinet meeting.”

The draft Climate Change Strategy 2020-2030 was examined by the Environment and Communities Scrutiny Committee at a meeting on Wednesday, June 24.

The development of the strategy was overseen by a Climate Change Advisory Group which was formed at the request of the cabinet member for the environment last year. The group involved members of all political parties, as well as members of the West Sussex Youth Cabinet and invited community representatives from the South East Climate Alliance.

A draft economy reset plan has been produced to supersede the county council’s existing Economic Growth Plan. It proposes nine priority themes to help mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on the West Sussex economy.
