Hundreds of Grace Church members came together to celebrate the opening of the Grace Centre in Terminus Road, Chichester.
The church, which has congregations in Chichester, Bognor Regis, Midhurst and Havant, purchased the former ambulance station back in November, 2018.
They immediately embarked upon an ambitious project to turn the former emergency services building into a church office and place of worship.
Some 320 members of the church from across all of its four sites gathered to celebrate the formal opening of the Grace Centre, a name synonymous with the church and their activities in the local area.
The celebrations started with tea, coffee, cake and an opportunity to view the completed first phase of the development work.
A spokesperson said: “The event culminated in a time of thanks and worship, and the retelling of the story of how God’s grace and provision allowed, not only the purchase of the building, but also the first crucial phases of redevelopment.”
Sunday morning services for the Chichester congregation will now be held at the Grace Centre. They will also be able to move a large number of regular midweek events from numerous locations across Chichester and the surrounding villages.
The centrepiece of the celebrations was a cake in the shape of the Grace Centre, which was cut ceremonially and shared before the end of the event.
Grace Church Chichester congregation now meets at the Grace Centre every Sunday morning from 10am. Popular midweek events, including the Little Bears parent and toddler group, Tuesday Group and the Alpha Course, will be moving to the building over the coming weeks.
