Chichester City Ladies boss Sadie Blakely knows she has plenty to do to get their season off the ground as the side look to bounce back from a disappointing opening day defeat.
A young Chi side took to the field for Blakely’s bow as City manager but were unable to prevent a 3-0 loss to MK Dons in the National Premier South.
Despite the defeat the new manager was full of praise for the endeavour shown by her side, who should have scored at least once in a positive second half showing.
City will look to make improvements when they host Cambridge City in the cup on Sunday at Oaklands Park (2pm).
They fell behind early to MK Dons, with the visitors taking the lead with 20 minutes on the clock.
Chi’s heads dropped and were second to the ball at times, leaving the defence with a lot of work to do, only having opportunities on the counter attack with Tash Wild causing problems with her pace up front.
It was MK Dons who scored again before the break when a mistake at the back saw Poppy Shine give the ball to the visitors’ winger who smashed it into the open goal.
Blakely made a change at half time which saw Lucy Cook replace Rachel Jarvis on the wing.
Cook got straight into the game and it was her ball into Amy Martins which saw the City striker fouled and awarded a penalty. Megan Fox put the ball down but the Dons keeper was equal to it.
Chi continued to get back into the game and had a few more opportunities before MK Dons made it 3-0 with a sweeping move with 20 minutes to go. Chi’s young squad continued to try and probe to get a consolation effort but it was to no avail.
