Medieval Jousting Week
Arundel Castle, Arundel BN18 9AB
Tue July 23-Sun July 28, 10am-4.30pm
International teams of ‘knights’ from Australia and Scandinavia will be competing with British and French challengers for the honour and title of champion at Arundel Castle’s medieval jousting event.
The highlight of the summer events at the castle is a real contest of combat. Competitors fight to win, with no scripts or stunts.
In between contests, visitors can enjoy the extensive range of exhibitors in a tented encampment, demonstrating and selling examples of blacksmithing, jewellery and leather work .
In keeping with the period when knights competed in horse-back contests, there will be daily falconry displays and medieval-style music performed by Myal and Peg.
Food and drink will be available in the event area and, although admission includes entry to the castle, grounds and gardens, special prices apply for the jousting event and standard tickets are not valid during it.
Continuing with history-linked activities over the school holidays, Arundel Castle will host a Living History Day on Tuesday, July 30, when visitors can meet characters such as a knight, pirate and medieval surgeon, and have fun with a range of have-a-go activities, including archery. There will also be falconry, face painting and a story teller during the event with an all-inclusive ticket price.
