Chi all set for new challenge

Chichester City are shaping up for their first season at step four in fine fettle after chalking up back-to-back pre-season wins.

Miles Rutherford’s side will play their football in the Isthmian South East this season after storming to the SCFL Premier crown.

Preparations for the new level of football look to be going well as Chi made it three wins from three in pre-season.

Last weekend they beat SCFL side Arundel thanks to goals from Callum Overton and Lloyd Rowlatt.

That was followed by a 3-1 victory of Wessex League side Christchurch in midweek.

A brace from Josh Clack and Overton’s third in three games sealed the victory in what has become the Steve Bernard Memorial Cup, in memory of the young PE student who died after a car accident on the A27 in 2005.

Next up for Chi is a trip to Wessex Premier side Fareham Town tomorrow (3pm) before a midweek trip to AFC Portchester on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Chi will be looking to give their players plenty of minutes ahead of their first league match on August 17 away at Ramsgate.

Elsewhere, Daren Pearce is making excellent progress with SCFL Division One side Selsey as the Blues look to build on last season’s top five finish.

Bradley Higgins-Pearce, Oli Hambleton, Ryan Morey, Callum Dowdell and Tom Atkinson are among the players to have re-committed to the club for another season.

They continued their good pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win over AFC Portchester in midweek, Lindon Miller getting the goal.

Blues play Havant-based Clanfield tomorrow (3pm) with all eyes focused on their opening match away at league newcomers Roffey on August 3.

Fellow SCFL Division Once side Sidlesham, who open their season at home to Oakwood, have made a number of new additions including Tom Jefkins, Tommy Harding and Jonathan Tallent.
