As part of its schools and young learners programme, Amberley Museum welcomed children from Fishbourne Primary School, who had the chance to learn what it was like to live in the Second World War.
To mark the 74th anniversary of VE day in 1945, the children wore period clothes and carried gas mask satchels and name labels to experience life as an evacuee.
They were privileged to have the story first-hand from Dudley Maynard, pictured above, a wartime evacuee himself. The air raid siren sounded for an evacuation drill before they boarded an evacuee train, returning on a vintage bus.
The children waved Union flags enthusiastically to join in celebrations at the end of the war. The Home Front was celebrated at Amberley on May 18 and 19 with a display of military vehicles from the Second World War, and period dancing and music.
