A SUCCESSFUL and colourful summer show has been celebrated by Donnington Gardening Club.

The effects of the long and harsh winter with low light levels, followed by a cold and difficult spring, were forgotten as Donnington Parish Hall was transformed into a mass of blooms and greenery.

A large number of entries displayed the skills of the club’s members and the roses and sweet peas were excellent with their bright colours and exquisite scent.

Club press officer Lawrence Holloway said: “Many thanks to all contributors and supporters of our club and show who came along to join in a happy and social occasion with tea and cakes, a raffle and an auction.”

Some of the prize winners are pictured above:

Pat Arthur Cup (sweet peas): Richard Emery.
Fruit Cup: Jacqueline Coombes.
Bunty Ison Cup: April Janman.
Photography Cup: Jill Gatehouse.
Rose Cup: Mandy Davis.
Vegetable Cup: Jacqueline Coombes.
Best in show: Jill Gatehouse (violas).

The club’s next meeting will at 7.30pm on July 6 at Donnington Parish Hall when Richard Moorey will be giving a talk about the area’s neighbourhood policing team. All visitors are welcome.
