Decade of dance marked at theatre as ballet stars return

MOSCOW City Ballet has returned to Chichester Festival Theatre with two stunning ballets, each presented in classic Russian style with full orchestra.

The ballet has marked the new year at the theatre for over a decade and is seen as an unmissable climax to the festive season.

Lucinda Morrison, head of press at the Fesitval Theatre said: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome Moscow City Ballet to the Festival Theatre. They’ve been coming here for over a decade, so they feel like old friends.

“There’s no better start to the New Year than revelling in their sumptuous productions and Tchaikovsky’s glorious music.”

The enchanting and romantic story of The Sleeping Beauty inspired Tchaikovsky to write some of his most glorious music, and the ballet has captivated audiences for well over a century.

Featuring the delicate Princess Aurora, her gallant Prince, wicked Carabosse, the beautiful Lilac Fairy and a host of fairy-tale characters, this truly magical production showcases the company’s exquisite dramatic and lyrical talents.

Ekaterina Tokaresva who plays the Lilac Fairy said: “I have been to the UK over 15 times. I love coming here, especially to Chichester. My favourite ballet to perform is Romeo and Juliet.”

The Golden Jewel Fairy, played by Ksenya Basnet said: “This is my second tour to the UK. We have just come from Eastern Europe where there are long distances between the venues so coming here is physically not as tiring.

“My favourite ballet is definitely Sleeping Beauty.”
