Go West! Wittering 1st XI are crowned champions

WEST Wittering 1st XI players were celebrating after being crowned the champions of West Sussex Invitation League Division 3 at Millennium Meadow. They took the title ahead of second-placed Barns Green, who at least enjoyed a winning draw in this last game of the season. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and Jay Dumbrill top scored with a ton to help them to 200 for 9 dec (47.3 overs). In reply the home side hit 93 for 7 (46 overs) with Andrew Priest 45no top scoring on a what turned out to be a great day for the club, right, with further glory. That’s because as well as the success for the 1st XI, the club’s 2nd XI gained promotion from West Sussex Invitation League Division 7 by finishing as runners-up. The visitors won the encounter by eight wickets at their Barns Green counterparts, who were put into bat and set about scoring 153 for 9 (40 overs) with Joseph Sissons recording figures of 3-46. In reply, Kevin Allsobrook hit an impressive 55 and Brandon Trimmer scored a creditable 48 as West Wittering reached 154 for 2 (32.1 overs). Mark Bamford hit 91 as Chichester Priory Park 1st XI drew with Portslade in Sussex Premier League 1st XI Division 3. The home side won the toss and elected to field and scored 193 for 9 dec (52.3 overs) at Priory Park.with Matthew Geffen and Robert Carver taking three wickets each — the former for 43 from 18.3 overs and the latter for 63 off 14. Ben Caldera took two for 11 from 4. Priory Park hit 190 for 9 (47 overs) with Bamford’s knock contributing massively; Ben Caldera was the next highest scorer with a decent contribution of 30. Middleton 2nd XI won by five wickets against Chichester Priory Park 2nd XI in Sussex Cricket League 2nd XI Division 2. The home side won the toss and elected to field and the visitors scored 250 all out (50.3 overs) with Ollie Troy smashing a magnificent 108. Adam Rawstrone took five wickets for 70 runs from 12.3 overs. Middleton, in reply, managed to score 251 for 5 (41.1 overs) with George Holman hitting 116 (bowled by Richard Haycocks caught by Charlie Futcher) — and in so doing reached his ton from just 49 balls. And skipper Will Searle proved to be handy with the bat, too, with creditable knock of 79. Chichester Priory Park 3rd XI clinched the West Sussex Invitation League Division 6 title with a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Eastergate 2nd XI. Eastergate won the toss and elected to bat at Goodwood and scored 134 for 4 (40 overs) with Aaron Bateman top scoring with 53. In reply Priory Park hit 137 for 2 (34.2 overs) (34.2 overs) with Philip Jull scoring 46. Selsey 1st XI beat Brighton & Hove 3rd XI by one wicket in West Sussex Invitation League Division 2. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and scored 238 for 5 (49 overs) at Tangmere Cricket Club. In the Selsey innings, Karl Walton came up shy for his half-century with 48, but Dave Benham surpassed the milestone with 58. Selsey won batting second by one wicket.
