Chichester knocked out a battling Hassocks this week to claim their place in the second round of the Parafix Susex Senior Challenge Cup.
Chi had already dispatched the visitors once this season with a 6-0 hammering just two months ago – but it was a much tighter affair under the lights at Oaklands Park on Tuesday.
Scott Jones continued his recent scoring streak to give Chi the lead before Hassocks equalised but the tie was decided before half-time with a stunning long-range drive.
On Saturday, Chi worked out the frustration of losing their unbeaten start in the top-of-the-table clash seven days earlier by hitting Lingfield for seven.
Kaleem Haitham quickly showed there would be no hangover from Saltdean with the opener before Jones, Matt Axell and Rob Hutchings all got on the scoresheet before half-time.
There was no let-up in the second half with Jones again, substitute Gicu Iordache and a Lingfield own goal sealing the emphatic win that leaves this weekend’s opponents Little Common with much to ponder.
