As part of plans to celebrate its 70th birthday, the NHS and the RHS are joining forces to raise awareness of how gardening, gardens and green spaces are good for health.
Mrs Rennie Wells, from Bosham, collected money to fund the redesign of some very neglected spaces at the outpatients area in St Richard’s Hospital.
The area had become dangerously derelict and was closed to the public. However, the Friends of the hospital group arranged funding for the repairs and heavier construction.
The gardens have been designed on the whole to look after themselves but provide interest and colour for most of the year and are now accessible to all.
part-time gardener Mrs Joan Barrowcliffe said: “The improvement to this unloved space is a joy to behold and provides a place where both staff and patients can relax and be close to nature.
“The gardens are now maturing nicely. We do require more volunteers to help keep these gardens maintained with gentle pruning, weeding and mulching.”
