Comic Con proves a success as hundreds turn up to event

COMIC fans were in their element at the weekend as the first ever Comic Con was held in Chichester.

Held at Chichester College, it brought together professional comic book guests, local artists, writers, comic publishers, cosplayers, gamers and retailers, with a common interest in comics and pop culture.

Organiser Simon Birks said: “2017 was the inaugural year, and the turnout was fantastic. Over 600 people came to experience it and everyone I spoke to said they’d had a fantastic time.”

“We had a great range of ages, with many children attending their very first convention.

“We held interactive workshops, which gave attendees the opportunity to learn from the experts.”

As well as exhibitors’ tables, there was a board games area, with tournaments being run by Comics, Games and Coffee, Chichester’s very own comic shop in North Street.

Workshops included building spacecraft, creating a Judge Dredd- inspired helmet, and learning how to draw Manga, by professional comic artist, Sonia Leong.

There was also a cosplay competition, where judges awarded prizes to the most inspiring costumes.
